This vintage-inspired wedding came together at an Old Town Hall in Huntingburg. The venue building itself is an 1887 Italianate structure with authentic Victorian lighting, elongated windows, beautiful chandeliers, 14-inch brick walls, and incredibly tall original tin ceilings. The intimacy of their ceremony vows with prayers laid upon them, to their fun-filled reception was kept to their tight-knit community of family and friends. With fall making way to winter, they selected burgundy and dark greens for their palette. See more of Brittany and Bryan’s special day below. Captured by // Summer Jasmine Photography
The Proposal
“Bryan took me back to Perfect North Slopes for a ski and snowboard trip in Lawrenceburg, IN. This place had an adorable historic part of town with glowing lights streamed over the old downtown strip, all the way down to the river walk.
Once again, you could find us under the same clock tower, on a bridge we had previously walked, and in a town that meant something more this time. The good thing about getting engaged when it’s cold out is all the layers you wear to hide the ring! Bryan’s bulky layers hid everything quite well. This time, the two of us sat on a bench, on that little familiar bridge, overlooking the water. Bryan told me this was the spot where he knew he started to fall in love with me (even before I knew), and this was the spot where he wanted to bring me back to ask me a question. I was so impatient and tried to get ‘YES’ out before he could even finish his question!
‘Patience is a virtue,’ they say!” -Brittany Hakenjos, Bride
The couple could not wait to see each other at the alter—the opted out of a First Look to appeal to the raw and true reaction of seeing each other down the aisle. They had their favorite DJ, DJ Rerum, keeping the dance floor live and occupied throughout the evening. Brittany had silk flowers from Hobby Lobby in her personalized bridal bouquet. After meeting in a parking lot, pre-kayak trip, each were in the “same boat” on figuring out if the other was available. A blossoming friendship began and quickly turned to something more from their friends’ perspectives.
Couple’s Best Advice
“Focus on what’s important to the both of you [on your wedding day.] This day is not about pleasing others or making everyone else happy. Take that honeymoon-even if it’s to a local hotel! The entire goal of your wedding day is to get married, so don’t sweat the small stuff.” – The Hakenjos
Congratulations to the Hakenjos on one year of marriage!
